Thermally modified interior wall paneling in ten species

Feature walls, hallways and ceilings in heat-and-steam treated Ash, Ayous, Iroko, Pine, Western Red Cedar, VG Hemlock, Shou Sugi Ban style, Rhino Wood and reclaimed barn wood. Thirteen milled profiles, no chemical preservatives, milled to order in the USA.

Thermally modified wood
Watch Video

Ten species, thirteen profiles, one chemical-free process.

Thermal modification drives the sugars and moisture out of the wood, so interior boards stay flat through heating seasons and never off-gas resin. Pick a species for its look: pale Ayous for a quiet wall, Iroko for golden depth, charred-look Shou Sugi Ban style for drama, or reclaimed barn wood for texture.

paneling

Flat, stable boards

Near-zero moisture movement, so joints stay tight.

Knot-free options

Clear Ayous, VG Hemlock and Cedar for calm, linear walls.

Charred look, no soot

Shou Sugi Ban style colour is baked in and will not rub off.

Resin-free indoors

No bleed, no smell, takes oil and finish evenly.
Why specify thermowood paneling

Paneling that stays true on the wall

Heat and steam permanently change the cell structure of the wood: it takes on far less moisture, resists insects and decay, and loses the sugars and resins that make ordinary boards cup and bleed. Indoors that means panels that stay straight, take finish evenly and keep their colour. Every board is milled to the thickness, width and profile the project calls for.

10 species in stock

Golden hardwood feature wall paneling

Iroko feature wall

Dense African hardwood with a rich golden-brown tone and premium hardness.
Shou Sugi Ban style thermally modified wood cladding (ThermoWood Millworks)

Shou Sugi Ban style

Deep-black boards with the charred look of yakisugi, clean to the touch.

Heat and steam only, no chemicals, made in the USA

Thermal modification uses only heat and steam. Our thermowood is sourced from certified renewable forests and manufactured in the USA; the boards are 100% natural, fully recyclable and can go to bio-energy at end of life.

Bold grain

Thermally modified Ash

Ash gives an open, pronounced grain that reads clearly across a wall. Leave it natural for a warm brown or oil it to hold the tone; it will weather to silver-grey only if left outside.

Pale and quiet

Thermally modified Ayous

Ayous (obeche) is a pale, lightweight hardwood with low thermal conductivity, so it stays cool to the touch. Resin-free after modification, it is our go-to for sauna rooms and clean minimalist walls.

Golden hardwood

Thermally modified Iroko

Iroko is a dense African hardwood with a golden-brown colour that deepens with age. Hard-wearing enough for hallways, lobbies and anywhere panels get touched.

Western Red Cedar

Warm honey to sienna, natural oils

Straight vertical wood slat wall paneling
VG Hemlock

Tight, straight vertical grain

Rhino Wood

Densified, extremely hard

Paneling questions

Common questions

Installation guides for paneling and cladding are on our guides page.

Wall and ceiling boards made from thermally modified wood. Heat and steam, with no chemicals, give the wood natural resistance to decay and insects and strong dimensional stability.

Thermal modification sharply reduces how much moisture the wood takes on, so panels resist cupping, twisting and warping through heating and humidity changes.

Thirteen standard profiles from 9/16 in to 1-5/8 in thick and 3-9/16 in to 5-1/2 in wide, in lengths up to about 10 ft. Every order is milled to the size and profile you specify.
