Shou Sugi Ban style thermally modified wood
The dramatic charred look of Japanese yakisugi, made with thermal modification instead of open flame. Deep, textured black boards with no soot, for facades, accent walls, paneling and statement ceilings. FSC certified.
Shou Sugi Ban style
The yakisugi look, without the soot or the fragility.
Traditional charring leaves a fragile, sooty surface that rubs off on hands and clothes. Our Shou Sugi Ban style boards get their colour from heat deep in the wood, so they can go indoors as easily as out and never leave a black mark.

Why specify Shou Sugi Ban style
Nature’s dramatic touch, refined by technology
Thermal modification strengthens the internal structure of the wood and drives its moisture absorption close to zero, so boards stay stable in sun and rain. The dense surface stands up to high-traffic areas, and every board keeps its own grain and colour variation for a natural, crafted look.
Soot-free
No carbon rub-off indoors or out.
Colour throughout
Baked into the wood, not painted on.
FSC certified
No chemicals or toxic dyes.

Shou Sugi Ban questions
Common questions
Installation guides for cladding, decking and porch flooring are on our guides page.
Is it real charred wood?
It recreates the look of traditional Shou Sugi Ban with thermal modification rather than open flame, so the surface is dark and textured but clean.
Will it rub off?
No. The colour is baked into the wood, so there is no soot or carbon transfer and it will not crack, blister or peel.
Where can it be used?
Exterior facades, accent walls, interior paneling and statement ceilings.
Can it be fire-retardant treated?
Yes. A fire-retardant treatment backed by ASTM and ULC test reports is available; classification depends on species, profile and application.
Do you offer shipping?
Yes, we ship worldwide. Orders go by freight across the US and overseas, with weekly truck delivery across Los Angeles, Orange County and San Diego.
