Vertical grain Western Red Cedar siding and ceilings
Pacific Northwest Western Red Cedar, quarter-sawn for vertical grain, in two grades: Architectural Clear for knot-free natural boards and Artisan Reserve with a deep factory finish. Also available with knots as STK (select tight knot). Lengths to 15 ft.
Western Red Cedar
Pacific Northwest Cedar, quarter-sawn for a straight, stable board.
Vertical grain cutting runs the growth rings straight and parallel through every board, so Cedar expands and contracts evenly and stays flat. Natural oils called thujaplicins make the heartwood resistant to rot, decay and insects with far less treatment than other softwoods.

Why specify vertical grain Cedar
The pinnacle of North American timber
Sourced from sustainably managed Pacific Northwest forests and milled for vertical grain, our Cedar gives a clean, contemporary face with few large knots. Its colour runs from warm honey to deep sienna and matures over time; left bare outdoors it silvers, oiled it keeps its warmth. It is lightweight, highly workable and insulates well, making it a favourite for rainscreens, tongue-and-groove ceilings and accent walls.
Vertical grain
Growth rings run straight for stability and a clean line.
Two grades
Architectural Clear natural or Artisan Reserve finished.
Fire-retardant option
Backed by ASTM and ULC test reports.
Lengths to 15 ft
Long boards for fewer joints on facades.
Profiles, species
Two grades, thirteen profiles
Architectural Clear is graded for visual quality with clear, defect-free boards, a natural counterpart to our Ayous thermowood. Artisan Reserve carries a deep factory finish for a dark, modern facade. Both come in 13 standard profiles from 5/8 in to 1-5/8 in thick.
Architectural Clear
Artisan Reserve
Heat and steam only, no chemicals, made in the USA
Thermal modification uses only heat and steam. Our thermowood is sourced from certified renewable forests and milled in the USA; the boards are 100% natural, fully recyclable and can go to bio-energy at end of life.
Knot-free
Architectural Clear grade
Clear, defect-free vertical grain boards selected for appearance. Natural durability with no chemical additives, light enough to ease handling and fastener load.
Dark finish
Artisan Reserve grade
The same vertical grain Cedar with a factory-applied deep finish, giving a crisp black facade that keeps the grain visible.
Overhead
Cedar soffits and ceilings
Tongue-and-groove Cedar ceilings and eave soffits that stay straight and need little more than an occasional clean.

Cedar questions
Common questions
Installation guides for cladding, decking and porch flooring are on our guides page.
Why vertical grain?
With growth rings perpendicular to the face, the board moves evenly with humidity and stays flat, and the surface wears evenly.
Is the Cedar available with knots?
Yes. Western Red Cedar comes without knots (clear) or with knots, which is called STK (select tight knot).
Does Cedar need a finish?
No. Left bare it weathers to silver-grey; a penetrating oil or stain keeps the honey tone and is absorbed evenly by the smooth vertical grain face.
Which lengths are available?
Boards run 3 to 15 ft, in 5/8 to 3/4 in, 1 in and 1-5/8 in thicknesses.
Can it be fire-retardant treated?
Yes. A fire-retardant treatment backed by ASTM and ULC test reports is available; classification depends on species, profile and application.
Do you offer shipping?
Yes, we ship worldwide. Orders go by freight across the US and overseas, with weekly truck delivery across Los Angeles, Orange County and San Diego.
