Our brands
Three ways to modify
Three thermally modified wood brands, each suited to a different job.
Thermally modified wood products
The benefits of thermally treating wood have been known for millennia: Vikings heated wood to preserve it for ships, and the Japanese pioneered Shou Sugi Ban. Modern technology fine-tunes the process with the perfect combination of heat, steam and pressure to produce woods with five times the lifespan of pressure-treated and unmodified wood.
Hidden fasteners, structural end joints
Decking
Thermally modified wood decking designs are easy to work with. We use standard symmetrical profiles that work with off-the-shelf hidden fasteners. You choose which side of the board you see, and with our structural end joint the deck can be laid like flooring, with joints floating anywhere between joists. Less waste, less time.

Thermowood explained
Common questions
The short answers. Our blog covers fire performance, deck railings and interiors in more depth.
What is thermally modified wood?
Wood heated to around 400°F under steam so sugars and moisture leave the cells. It becomes durable and stable.
Is it treated with chemicals?
No. Only heat and steam are used, so offcuts can be burned or recycled and the wood is safe for saunas and interiors.
How long does it last outdoors?
Class 1 durability rated: typically 25+ years for cladding and 20+ for decking. Colour greys to silver unless oiled.
Is thermowood fire resistant?
It performs like dense hardwood but is not fire-rated. For WUI zones we supply fire retardant treated wood instead.
Do you offer shipping?
Yes, we ship worldwide. Orders go by freight across the US and overseas, with weekly truck delivery across Los Angeles, Orange County and San Diego.
